Counselling
What is counselling?
Counselling offers a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences with the support of a qualified counsellor.

Why people come
There is no right reason to come to counselling
There are many reasons why people choose to come to counselling. Equally, you may simply feel that something isn’t quite right, or want a space to understand yourself more fully.
Together, we will explore your experiences in a supportive and collaborative way. Through this process you can develop greater self-awareness, build on your strengths and find your own way forward.
How I can help
Some of the areas we can explore together
Everyone’s experience is unique, and there is no right reason to come to counselling. You may be seeking support with a specific issue, or simply feel that something isn’t quite right.
If what you are experiencing is not listed here, you are still very welcome to get in touch.
- Anxiety, worry and feeling overwhelmed
- Low mood, depression and feeling stuck
- Grief, loss and life transitions
- Low self-esteem and confidence
- Relationship and attachment-related issues
- Stress, work-related stress and burnout
- Trauma and difficult life experiences
- Exploring self-understanding, personal growth and change
What to expect
From first contact to your final session
We will work at a pace that feels right for you, and keep reviewing what is working as your needs evolve.
Arrange a free 30-minute call- 1
Initial contact
If you decide to get in touch, we can arrange a free initial telephone or video call lasting around 30 minutes. It is a chance to meet, talk about what has brought you to counselling, ask any questions, and explore whether working together feels like the right fit.
- 2
Your first session
A chance to get to know one another and begin building a therapeutic relationship. There is no expectation to share everything straight away. We will work at a pace that feels right for you.
- 3
Working together
Each session is an opportunity to focus on whatever feels most important to you. Some sessions may involve exploring difficult emotions or past experiences; others may focus on gaining insight, new perspectives, or recognising your strengths.
- 4
Reviewing our work
From time to time we will reflect on how counselling is feeling for you: what has been helpful, whether your needs or goals have changed, and whether there is anything you would like to do differently.
- 5
Ending counselling
Ending is an important part of the journey and, wherever possible, something we plan together. We will reflect on the progress you have made and what you would like to take forward, and may create a personalised collection of insights, strategies or resources for you to draw on.
Confidentiality
What you share stays with care
Confidentiality is an important part of building a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship. What you share will be treated with care, respect, and kept confidential.
There are a small number of situations where I may need to share information, for example if there are serious concerns about your safety or the safety of someone else, safeguarding concerns, or where I am required to do so by law. Wherever possible, I will discuss this with you first.

Online counselling
Sessions on Zoom, from somewhere you feel safe
Mind Grace Therapy offers counselling sessions online using Zoom, with in-person sessions in Westhill, Aberdeenshire from November. Online counselling provides a confidential and professional space where you can access support from somewhere you feel safe, comfortable and able to engage privately.
To get the most from an online session, it can help to:
- Choose a private and comfortable space where you feel able to speak openly.
- Minimise interruptions where possible.
- Use a suitable device and a reliable internet connection.
- Give yourself your full attention. Avoid driving or other activities during the session.
- Allow yourself a few quiet moments before and after your session to reflect.
I take reasonable steps to protect your privacy by conducting sessions from a confidential setting and using appropriate security measures. Further information about how sessions are conducted will be provided before counselling begins.
Taking the next step
Taking the first step towards counselling can feel daunting, and finding a counsellor you feel comfortable with is an important part of the process.
